Youth (birth -18 years) Tails and Tales Program Descriptions 2021

*Due to Covid-19, if Spencer County is in “Blue” we are allowed to have the outdoor programs.  If the county moves to “Yellow” the decision will be made by the Health Department.  If the county is “Orange” or “Red” we will NOT hold outdoor programs.

Dale: In-Person Youth Summer Reading Weekly Prize Pick-up (all ages)
Youth Prize Pick-up will be every Friday starting June 11th from 9:00-1:00 p.m. and 2:00-6:00 p.m. Also, Saturdays from 9:00-1:00 p.m.  This will be for the 5 weeks of programs through Saturday, July 10th. Bring your paper logs in each week or wait until the end of Summer Reading to pick up all of your prizes. Be sure to log on to Beanstack weekly to record your reading by July 10th. If you are using Beanstack Ms. Abby will know what prizes you qualify for each week.  Only youth with paper reading logs will be able to pick up prizes at the Chrisney Branch.  At this time all Beanstack participants will have to pick up prizes at the Dale Branch.

Virtual TWEEN Time (grades 3rd-5th only)
All Tweens who register and picked up a craft kit can participate. This program will be posted on our Facebook page starting Tuesday, June 8th at 11:00 a.m. and each week through July 5th.

Virtual TEEN Scene (grades 6th-12th only)
All Teens who register and picked up a craft kit may participate.  Join Ms. Abby weekly for a different craft/activity.  This program will be posted on our Facebook page starting Tuesday, June 8th at 11:30 a.m. and each week through July 5th.

Virtual LIVE Tale Time Story Time & Craft (children ages 0-2nd grade only)
This is our traditional story time with a fun craft for the kids!  Ms. Abby will be reading an animal story and showing you how to create the weekly craft.  You will be picking up the craft kits at Kick-Off.  This program will take place LIVE on Facebook starting Wednesday, June 9th at 11:00 a.m. and runs through July 7th.

Dale & Chrisney: In-Person Outdoor Adventures (all ages)
Outdoor Adventures is a chance to gather outside and have some fun at the libraries.  Many activities are planned (animal yoga, pet parades, obstacle courses, and chalk & bubble play days.)  The programs will be at Dale on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. and at Chrisney on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m.  Outdoor Adventures will be held behind the Dale Branch, while at the Chrisney Branch it will be held under the pavilion. If it is raining, it will be rescheduled for later that week.

Outdoor Adventures: Pet Parade (all ages)
Dale: Monday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m.
Chrisney: Thursday, July 1st at 2:00 p.m.
Bring your own pets to the library and get ready to parade them around the parking lot. Dress them up, perform a trick, or just smile and have fun showing off your pet. If you do not have a pet feel free to bring your favorite stuffed pet to walk in the parade.

Outdoor Adventures: Animal Yoga (all ages)
Chrisney: Thursday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Dale: Monday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m.
Let's all pretend to be different animals and move like them during our fun yoga program. We will be posing and acting out animal movements. Bring a towel or yoga mat. 

Outdoor Adventures: Chalk & Bubbles (all ages)
Dale: Monday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m.
Chrisney: Thursday, July 8th at 2:00 p.m.
Enjoy the great outdoors with chalk and bubbles. All materials will be provided. Drop by and see us at either location.

Outdoor Adventures: Obstacle Course (all ages)
Dale: Tuesday, July 6th at 10:00 a.m.
Chrisney: Thursday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m.
Enjoy the great outdoors going through the obstacle course at either library location. Drop by and play.

Virtual Family Trivia (all ages)
This program is intended for families to enjoy together.  Each Friday morning Ms. Abby will be sending an email with the link to the Animal Trivia Challenge using Kahoot!  Complete this challenge over the weekend. On Monday mornings Ms. Abby will reward the winning family with a prize! Each trivia challenge will be based on animals.
June 11: Animal Names; June 18: Animal Babies; June 25: Animal Locations; July 2: Animal Habits; July 9: Funny Animal Trivia.

Dale & Chrisney: In-Person Outside Movies (all ages)
We will be showing two outside movies this summer. Please bring blankets and your own snacks to enjoy during the movies!  The Chrisney movie “Rio” rated G will be shown on Thursday, June 17th showing will be in the grass by the outdoor pavilion. The Dale movie will be shown on Monday, June 28th “Rio 2” rated G.  The movie will be shown between the Library and the Community Center in Dale.  Both movies will be start at 7:45 p.m. and will end close to 9:30 p.m. If it is raining, the movie will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Dale & Chrisney: In-Person Scholastic Book Fair (all ages) We will be hosting a HUGE Scholastic Book Fair from July 12th-24th.  Each child will earn $1 for each week that they complete the reading challenge on Beanstack or using the paper log.  Also, children who participated last summer will FINALLY get to spend their dollars from last summer.  So you could potentially have $10 in free books from both years of Summer Reading!  

Chrisney:  Scholastic Book Fair will be held on Thursday, July 8th from 2:30-5:30 p.m
Dale: Scholastic Book Fair starts on Monday, July 12th through Saturday, July 24th Daily at 9:15 a.m. until 15 minutes before the library closes each day.

Dale: In-Person Grand Prize Entry Days (all ages) While you are at the Scholastic Book Fair at the Dale Branch, the children will have an opportunity to vote for the grand prizes that they would want to win.  A display of the prizes will be set up inside the Fair. Each child will earn one entry for each week they completed this year’s reading challenge. Children will receive their Grand Prize entry tickets and completion certificates from Ms. Abby at that time.

Virtual LIVE Grand Prize Drawing Ms. Abby will be going LIVE on Facebook on Monday, July 26th at 1:00 p.m. to announce the winners of this year's Grand Prizes!  Those who win a grand prize will be able to pick them up later in the week.

Huntingburg Pool: In-Person Grand Prize Pool Party (youth -0-18 yrs - who finished all five weeks of the reading challenge): Saturday, July 24th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. pool party at the Huntingburg Community Pool to celebrate all the finishers of this year’s summer reading challenge!  Golden tickets will be handed out at the Book Fair by Ms. Abby. Please bring your Golden Ticket to the pool for entry. Parents must stay with their summer readers and are encouraged to swim too! Life guards will be poolside for your safety.    ==========================================================================================================================================

Dale & Chrisney: Adult Summer Reading
Adults (18 years and up) can read or listen to any books of their choosing. They can be fiction, nonfiction and/or graphic novels. Record the author and title of each book on your reading log or on our Beanstack Tracker App. Show your log to a librarian each time you visit the library for a chance to spin the prize wheel! The program ends Saturday, July 10th and winners will be announced the following week. Dale will be giving away themed baskets and Chrisney is giving away gift cards. Registration is May 24-June 5.
